Cosmetic Acupuncture
Katie trained with Travall Croom and has been using his protocol for cosmetic acupuncture since 2019. During a cosmetic acupuncture treatment, Katie will use gua sha tools for facial massage, needles to target specific muscles and fine lines, a Celluma LED light to kill acne bacteria and promote collagen & elastin production in the cells, and lastly facial cupping. Products used in cosmetic acupuncture treatments are made by Katie in-house.
Cupping
Cupping uses heat generated from fire with glass cups to pull the skin and muscles upward. It is essentially the opposite of a massage, creating space in areas of tightness and stagnation to provide relief from pain. I typically use topical oils and salves that incorporate Chinese herbs with cupping sessions to promote muscle relaxation.

PS - you can have heart shaped cupping marks, just ask!

Herbal Medicine
Katie’s education during her 3 year Master’s degree program provided training on over 300 individual Chinese herbs. Ocotillo Acupuncture houses a pharmacy with a wide array of herbal formulas that can be tailored to your specific condition. Herbs can be prescribed in tea, powder, topical or pill form depending upon your condition and personal preference. Herbal medicine is best used in conjunction with acupuncture, however if you are not local to Denver or prefer not to receive acupuncture, you may book herbal consultations without acupuncture with Katie through the booking link here.
Electric Stimulation
Think a TENS unit, but attached to needles to target deeper, more specific points. Electric stimulation can be effective to address pain, neuropathy, bone regeneration, and paralysis among other things. Depending on the frequency used, it can feel like a light buzzing or tapping or can be more intense depending on your condition and tolerance. You can always book a free consultation with Katie if you have more questions about electric stimulation in conjunction with acupuncture!

Moxibustion
Moxibustion, or moxa, is the process of burning an herb called Mugwort over certain acupuncture points or general areas of the body. It can be done by burning a stick, attaching moxa to the top of an acupuncture needle, or placed directly on top of a point - don’t worry, we will not burn you! Moxa is intensely warming and has also been shown to raise white blood cell counts in the body - in other words, it’s great for your immune system!
